In the period of year 2001 to year 2008 population growth has a number average 8 percent over the year.

Religion

Islam is the majority religion in the city of Batam. Masjid ( mousqe) Raya Batam that is located in the middle of town, near the square, the mayor office and the DPRD office became a symbol of religious communities Batam. Christian and Catholic are also held by many Batam community, mainly originating from the Batak ethnic and Flores. Buddhist religion adopted by most Chinese citizens.
